Performance, Education and Research

Begun as informal concerts in 2018, Early Music Missouri has grown to become an important part of our region’s musical life, presenting concerts, workshops, master classes, lectures and more regionally and nationally. EMMo concerts feature Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical repertoire played on instruments (originals and reproductions) from these eras. Utilizing historical documents and original musical scores and guided by modern research, EMMo offers performances that reflect an Historically Informed Approach to technique, interpretation and performance.

To meet this end, EMMo presents expert performers and performer/scholars of our region as well as out-of-town guest artists. Each season, EMMo presents six Main Stage Concerts at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ladue, MO and two intimate chamber concerts on the campus of Saint Louis University. In addition, EMMo presents touring performances across the region and country. In the 2022 - 2023 season, EMMo presented concerts in Kansas City, Louisville, Cincinatti, Santa Fe and elsewhere on concert series and college campuses. The 2023 - 2024 season includes EMMo performances on concert series in out-state Missouri, North Carolina, New Mexico and Colorado.

In addition, Early Music Missouri’s performers and scholars regularly present lectures, demonstrations and classes for university students, community and educational organizations. These offerings include formal lectures about Historical Performance Practice, coaching sessions and master classes for students, and lecture/demos about historical instruments.
